Smart TVs offer users more features than ever before. This includes the ability to access a plethora of entertainment through media content streaming channels. Undoubtedly, one of the industry leaders in this technology is Samsung. From as far back as 2010, Samsung Smart TV have given viewers the option to connect to the internet to watch their favorite shows and movies.
Samsung Smart TVs run on operating systems similar to those used by your smartphone. The TVs operating system allows users to manage network-based content through the Google Play Store. Initially, the system was run off Samsung’s Legacy Platform Orsay, then somewhere around mid-2015 the tech giant changed its operating system to Tizen OS.
One of the pitfalls of this is that you may not have access to all the content available. Large broadcasting companies and streaming services do not make content universally available. What you are able to watch in the UK, for example, greatly differs from the content available through your smart TV when you’re watching from the USA. This is aptly known as Geo-blocking or Geo-restriction.
Accessing VPN on Samsung Smart TV
For users, there is an easy way to get around such restrictions – a VPN. Users who want to access a VPN in their Samsung Smart TVs should note that there aren’t any VPN apps available in the Samsung App Store through Smart Hub on Samsung Smart TVs.
This means that you will not be able to set up a VPN directly onto smart TV but instead, you will need to make use of a VPN Router Box. I would highly recommend the Shellfire Box for this. It can be easily connected, either directly to your TV through an Ethernet Cable, or alternatively connect the router to your in-home Wi-Fi.
You can get the Shellfire Box from Amazon, and included in the purchase price is either a one or two year VPN subscription. The box comes pre-configured and without the need to enter user or password information, so it is really easy to setup at your home.
To get started you simply need to plug the Shellfire Box into your existing Router using the provided Ethernet cable. Plug one end of the cable into the WAN port on the Shellfire Box and the other end into a free port on your Internet Router. Using the provided USB cable plug the Shellfire Box into your wall socket. This will automatically power up the device. You’ll see lights on the box start to flash. When these lights stop flashing your Shellfire Box is connected.
