Smart TVs offer users a chance to do more than just watch TV – they get to experience it. There are more channels than any one user could wrap their head around. There’s something for everyone now. And whether you’re a sports fan or a drama fan, the smart TV will have something on it for you.
Many people use smart TVs now instead of regular TVs as they offer more ways of viewing media. Also, smart TVs offer the option of surfing the web and doing a lot of what computers do nowadays. They are the ultimate in TV viewing. One of the giants in Smart technology is LG technologies. LG introduced its first internet TV in 2007, but renamed it the LG Smart TV when they added more features in 2011. Their Smart TVs give buyers the option of enjoying their favorite shows and movies through an internet hookup.
LG Smart TVs work on a network that’s similar to your smartphone. Using the Google Play Store, you can manage your applications (apps) to watch your shows, using such apps as Netflix and Hulu. With some of its smart TVs, LG is using webOS with a ribbon interface to run its program, though some run on NetCast.
What happens sometimes with these operating systems is that they lock you out of some of your content. It’s simply not available universally. This is known as geo-blocking. The content you watch in the USA is different than the content you get in Europe, for example. Some shows are even different, though they are the same show. Content that doesn’t get aired in one country may get aired in another country.
There is, however, good news. You can get around this by accessing a VPN. It should be noted, however, that there is no app to be downloaded on the LG Smart TV if you want to access a VPN. You must, instead, use a VPN Router Box. I would recommend the Shellfire Box for this use. The connection is easy. It goes in either through an Ethernet Cable directly into your LG Smart TV or it can connect to the router to your in-home Wi-Fi setup.
Purchasing the Shellfire Box is simple as well. You can get it on Amazon. Included in the price is either a one- or two- year VPN subscription. When setting up, keep the ID you receive and your password nearby; you’ll need these later on.
Connecting Your LG Smart TV to the Shellfire Box
In order to get started, plug your Shellfire Box into your Internet Router with the Ethernet cable. One end of the Ethernet cable goes into a free port on your internet router and the other goes into the WAN port of the Shellfire Box. The provided USB cable goes into your Shellfire Box. This then gets plugged into the wall. Your device should turn on automatically. Flashing lights will show that your box is turning itself on. When they have stopped flashing, your Shellfire box is ready to use.
If your LG Smart TV and your internet router are close together, you can hook up your Shellfire Box using an Ethernet cable. Doing it this way will make for a much more stable connection. Also, it will allow for faster speeds.
The following steps will show you how to connect Shellfire to the LG Smart TV via Ethernet:
- While your LG Smart TV is off, plug one end of your Ethernet Cable into the available Ethernet (LAN) slot on the Shellfire VPN Router Box and plug the other end into the LAN port at the back of the TV.
- Switch your TV on and press Menu on your remote.
- Navigate to the Network option and select it.
- Network Settings will be automatically selected, press Enter to continue.
- The start button on the Network Setup will be highlighted. Simply press enter to continue to the next step.
- When prompted select the Wired Connection option and press enter.
- The Next option will now be highlighted and you’ll need to press enter to move to the next step.
- Your TV will connect to your network.
In order to connect your LG Smart TV to the Shellfire Box VPN system, you will need to know your LG Smart TV model number. This will tell you if your TV is supported. If your LG Smart TV isn’t near your internet hook-up, you will have to connect it via Wi-Fi.

Depending on your specific LG Smart TV, your screens may look different, but the steps should be the same. Hooking up the Shellfire Box is simple, whether you do it through the Wi-Fi or manually through an Ethernet cable. Remember that hook up through an Ethernet cable will afford you faster speeds and a more stable connection. Wi-Fi is still a good means to get the channels you want, however, without having to go through a complex process.
There’s no question about it; smart technology has made life a lot easier. But there are times when even smart technology has failed us. However, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Whether you’re looking for a new show you just can’t seem to get, or your favorite show is airing episodes you just can’t manage to find, a VPN may be the solution to your problem. So pick up a Shellfire Box today, and use these easy steps to connect it to your LG Smart TV the simple way. You will be watching those shows in no time!
